Millville, NJ (February 17, 2025) – A tragic head-on collision on Route 55 in Cumberland County claimed the life of a motorist and left two others injured on Friday afternoon.
According to New Jersey State Police, Maria Ortiz, 55, of Millville, was traveling north on Route 55 when her vehicle veered off the roadway, crossed the median, and entered the southbound lanes near the exit for Route 49. Her car then collided head-on with a southbound SUV.
Troopers responded to the crash around 2:15 p.m. Emergency personnel provided medical assistance to all parties involved. Sadly, Ortiz succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver and passenger in the SUV sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. No additional details have been released at this time.
