Midland, TX (October 25, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to another. At approximately 3:19 p.m., a fatal crash took place at the intersection of Farm-to-Market 1788 and County Road 58.
According to a report from the Department of Public Safety, the driver of a 2018 Toyota Highlander, identified as 61-year-old James Craig Buter of Midland, was traveling with three passengers. Fortunately, Buter was not injured in the crash. However, his passengers, 37-year-old Doria Hernandez from Odessa and an infant, were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Reports indicate that neither of the deceased passengers was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The other vehicle involved in the incident, a 2019 Freightliner driven by 35-year-old Lazaro Rafael Reina Lenus, was traveling north on FM 1788 when the Highlander reportedly failed to yield at a stop sign, leading to the collision. Reina Lenus was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
