Middleboro, MA (December 04, 2024) – A man in his late 60s was rescued from a burning home in South Middleboro Monday night, after a fire broke out at his residence on 6 Locust St. The man, who sustained life-threatening injuries including burns and smoke inhalation, was quickly transported to Rhode Island Hospital for emergency treatment.
Firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 9:15 p.m. to reports of a house fire at the two-story home. Upon arrival, crews immediately began attacking the blaze from the exterior of the building. While battling the flames, firefighters learned from neighbors that the home’s occupant was possibly still inside.
An aggressive search was conducted, and the man was located near a side entrance of the home. He was rescued and quickly transported by Coastal Medical Transportation ambulance. His current condition remains critical, but further details on his recovery have not been provided.
The bulk of the fire was brought under control by 12:30 a.m., though fire crews remained on the scene throughout the morning, working to extinguish hot spots and ensure the structure was safe. Fortunately, only one firefighter was injured—suffering a minor ear laceration—which was treated on-site.
Our thoughts are with the injured man and his family, and we hope for his recovery. Local authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire, while firefighters remind residents to always be aware of fire safety precautions, especially during the winter months when heating systems can become a common cause of house fires.
