Menahga, MN (February 9, 2025) – Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 71 and 350th St in Menahga, Wadena County. The incident occurred yesterday around 11:26 a.m. CST, prompting a rapid response from the Menahga Fire Department, Police Department, and the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office.

According to initial reports, a 2023 Toyota Corolla, driven by 27-year-old Karina Gorjess Huhta of Minneapolis, was traveling northbound on Highway 71 when it collided with a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer traveling eastbound on 350th St, driven by 63-year-old Tony Ray Jones of Park Rapids. The airbags in the Toyota Corolla deployed upon impact.

Karina Gorjess Huhta sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Astera Hospital for medical treatment. Tony Ray Jones was not injured in the collision. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no alcohol was involved in the incident.

Authorities are actively investigating the crash to determine the exact cause. Traffic in the area experienced temporary delays as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and gather information.

Vehicle Crashes in Minnesota

Minnesota’s intersections, such as the junction of Highway 71 and 350th St in Menahga, are frequent sites of vehicle crashes due to various factors, including high traffic volumes, limited visibility, and road conditions. Collisions at intersections often result from failure to yield, distracted driving, and other violations of traffic laws.

In 2023, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety reported thousands of traffic-related injuries and fatalities across the state. Wadena County, while less densely populated, still experiences its share of traffic incidents, particularly on busy highways like HWY 71. Despite efforts to improve road safety through infrastructure enhancements and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, accidents remain a significant concern for local residents.

Victims of vehicle crashes often face a range of challenges, from physical injuries to emotional trauma and financial burdens, including medical expenses and lost income. It is essential for individuals involved in accidents to seek immediate medical attention, even if injuries are not immediately apparent, as symptoms can develop over time.
