McCool Junction, NE (February 1, 2025) – A serious crash occurred Friday morning involving a semi-truck and a minivan at the intersection of Highway 81 and Road 3, approximately one mile south of McCool Junction. The accident took place at around 8:50 a.m. and left the driver of the minivan with very serious injuries. The York County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, where emergency responders provided immediate care to the injured individual.
Witnesses reported that the semi, traveling northbound on Highway 81, collided with the minivan, which had been traveling westbound from Road 3. According to Captain Josh Gillespie of the York County Sheriff’s Office, the minivan driver attempted to pull out from the stop sign, causing the semi-truck driver from Belleville, Kansas, to swerve into the passing lanes in an attempt to avoid the collision. Despite his efforts, the semi-truck continued into the grass median before coming to a stop.
The driver of the minivan, a central Nebraska man, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to York General Hospital. Though there was initial concern about his condition, discussions indicated he might need to be transported to a medical facility in Lincoln for further treatment. Fortunately, the semi-driver was not injured in the crash. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by local authorities. Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident.
Semi-Truck Accidents in Nebraska
Semi-truck accidents in Nebraska, especially on major highways like Highway 81, can be particularly dangerous due to the size and weight of the vehicles involved. In incidents like the one on Friday morning, even when the truck driver takes evasive action, the severity of the crash can still result in significant injury. This crash serves as a reminder of the importance of being vigilant when approaching intersections, particularly those where large trucks are involved.
Accidents at intersections, especially when one vehicle attempts to cross traffic or pull out from a stop sign, can lead to serious consequences. The York County area has seen its share of accidents at such intersections, which often involve high-speed highways like Highway 81.
For those involved in similar accidents, it’s critical to seek medical care immediately, especially in cases of serious injury. Victims should also consult with legal professionals to ensure they are properly compensated for any medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional suffering. With a semi-truck involved, insurance claims can be complex, and a lawyer’s assistance can help victims navigate this process more effectively.
If you’re involved in an accident of this nature, always gather evidence, such as witness statements and photographs of the scene, which can be crucial in establishing fault and protecting your rights. In many cases, victims may be entitled to compensation for their injuries, which can help ease the burden of medical bills and lost income.
