Mayfield, KY (October 3, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision occurred on Thursday, October 3 at approximately 10:30 AM at the intersection of the KY 121 Bypass and KY 464, resulting in injuries to both drivers involved. Deputies from the Graves County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly to the scene to investigate the accident.
According to reports, Fredrick McDaniel, 87, of Mayfield, was driving a 2004 BMW two-door sedan westbound on KY 464 when he pulled into the path of a northbound 2012 Kia four-door sedan operated by Hal Cates, 71, also of Mayfield. The two vehicles collided and came to rest in the southbound lane of the KY 121 Bypass.
Fortunately, neither driver was trapped in their vehicle, but both sustained injuries in the collision. Hal Cates was transported to Mercy Health – Paducah for medical treatment, while Fredrick McDaniel was taken to Baptist Health – Paducah. Traffic on KY 464 and the KY 121 Bypass was restricted for just over an hour as authorities worked to clear the scene and ensure safety for other motorists.
The investigation into the accident was led by Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince, with assistance from Deputy Greg Sloan, the Mayfield Police Department, Mayfield/Graves County EMS, and the Mayfield/Graves County Fire and Rescue Squad. The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to several witnesses who stopped to provide aid to both drivers until first responders arrived.
