Marshall Township, PA (November 4, 2024) – A serious early-morning crash on I-79 Southbound near the 74.7-mile marker led to the closure of a significant stretch of the highway near the Allegheny County line. The accident, reported around 4:00 a.m. on November 4, required a large emergency response, with at least two, and possibly three, medical units transporting injured individuals to nearby hospitals.
Emergency personnel, including Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) and Fire Police, coordinated to close off I-79 SB, extending the closure to the Warrendale exit. Additional closures were implemented on the I-79 on-ramp from Route 19, as well as near the collector at Exit 78, to prevent traffic from entering the restricted area. Despite these efforts, some motorists attempted to navigate around the roadblocks, prompting Fire Police to reinforce the closure points.
This significant crash remains under investigation, with responders working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. Traffic delays were extensive as crews worked to clear the scene and ensure the safety of travelers.
Our thoughts are with those injured in the crash, and we hope for their swift recovery.
