Marion County, KY (November 4, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision on Saturday evening led to the deaths of two individuals in Marion County. Kentucky State Police (KSP) reported that the incident took place at approximately 6:20 p.m. near Jessietown Rd, involving a 2005 Dodge Ram and a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox.
The preliminary investigation indicates that 20-year-old Erick Garcia, a resident of Lebanon, was driving a Dodge Ram westbound on US 68 when he allegedly crossed the center line, veered off the road, and then re-entered the eastbound lane. In doing so, he reportedly crashed head-on into an eastbound Chevrolet Equinox driven by 75-year-old Roy Wright, also from Lebanon. Wright was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Tragically, his passenger, 72-year-old Deborah Wright, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities have charged Garcia with multiple offenses related to the incident. Further investigations by KSP are ongoing to determine the precise factors contributing to this tragic accident.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of Roy and Deborah Wright during this difficult time.
Head-On Collisions in Kentucky
Head-on collisions are among the deadliest types of crashes, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities. In Kentucky, these accidents are frequently attributed to factors like distracted driving, impaired driving, or failure to stay in the proper lane. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), head-on collisions have a higher fatality rate compared to other types of crashes, especially when they occur at high speeds.
Kentucky law enforcement agencies continue to promote safe driving practices, emphasizing the importance of alertness and adherence to traffic regulations. While tragic, accidents like these underline the critical need for all drivers to exercise caution, especially on rural roads where sharp curves or lack of divided lanes can increase risks.
