Maries County, MO (February 13, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle collision on Wednesday morning left one driver hospitalized following a crash at the junction of US Highway 63 and Highway 28. The accident occurred at approximately 9:52 a.m. amid snowy road conditions.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 23-year-old woman from Licking, MO, was traveling southbound in a 2001 Buick LeSabre when she lost control on the snow-covered roadway. Her vehicle crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a northbound 2023 Peterbilt truck driven by a 69-year-old man from Rosebud, MO.

Emergency responders, including Maries County EMS and the Vienna Fire Department, arrived quickly to provide assistance. The driver of the Buick suffered serious injuries and was transported by EMS to Phelps Health for treatment. The truck driver was not reported injured. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident, reminding drivers to use caution in winter weather conditions.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we hope for a full recovery.

Winter Weather Accidents in Missouri

Missouri’s winter months bring hazardous driving conditions, increasing the risk of accidents like the one at US 63 and Highway 28. Snow-covered and icy roads can lead to reduced traction, longer stopping distances, and loss of vehicle control. Drivers must take extra precautions when navigating winter weather to avoid serious crashes.

One of the primary dangers in winter driving is losing control and veering into oncoming traffic, as seen in this crash. Slowing down, maintaining a safe following distance, and ensuring proper tire traction are key measures to prevent such incidents. Commercial trucks, given their size and weight, pose an increased risk in collisions, making defensive driving crucial for all motorists.

For accident victims, the recovery process can be challenging. Medical expenses, vehicle repairs, and lost wages can create significant financial strain. Understanding legal options and seeking professional support can help ensure injured individuals receive the assistance they need.
