Manorville, NY (October 31, 2024) – A serious accident occurred on the Long Island Expressway when a teenager was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs, following a collision with an oil truck. The incident took place near Exit 69, where 19-year-old Austin Richuitti was reportedly driving a 2011 Cadillac westbound at a high rate of speed.
According to Suffolk County police, Richuitti’s vehicle struck the back of the oil truck, causing it to overturn and spill into a wooded area. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene to assist those involved in the crash. Both Richuitti and the driver of the oil truck, 24-year-old Timothy Abruzzo from Kings Park, were transported via helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. Fortunately, both individuals were reported to be in stable condition following the accident.
Richuitti has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs (DWAI), reckless endangerment, and reckless driving. He is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene, including Matthew Hitta, a local business owner on Wading River Road, who noted, “I heard the sirens and I saw a lot of first responders going to the scene…I saw the cops running and a whole bunch of traffic started accumulating.”
