Mankato, MN (December 9, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision occurred Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Southbound Highway 22, just under the Highway 14 overpass in Mankato, Blue Earth County. According to local authorities, a 2017 Mazda CX-5 and a 2017 Nissan Altima made contact, resulting in injuries. Emergency responders, including Mankato Fire, Police Department, and Mayo Ambulance, were on the scene to provide assistance.

The collision involved a total of four individuals, two from each vehicle. The driver of the Mazda, a 15-year-old female from Janesville, MN, and her 47-year-old passenger, Amy Jo Miller, sustained no injuries. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The driver of the Nissan, 28-year-old Asha Omar Ibrahim from Mankato, MN, and her 31-year-old juvenile passenger, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger was transported to MCHS Mankato for medical evaluation. Both the Nissan driver and the passenger were also wearing seat belts.

At this time, the road conditions were dry, and no alcohol was involved in the accident. Both vehicles had airbags, but neither deployed during the crash.

Our thoughts are with those involved in this accident, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured parties.

Vehicle Collisions with Injuries in Minnesota

Accidents like this one on Highway 22 highlight the risks associated with driving in areas with heavy traffic flow and potential for high-speed collisions. The dry road conditions at the time may have contributed to a crash that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries despite the airbags not deploying in either vehicle. Highway 22, particularly near the Highway 14 overpass, is a busy corridor and accidents like this underscore the importance of staying alert and cautious.

While the involvement of alcohol or severe weather was not a factor, other risks like distracted driving or sudden lane changes could have played a role in the crash. Drivers are reminded to always wear seat belts and avoid distractions to reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

As the investigation into this incident continues, more details will be provided by the authorities. Drivers in the area are encouraged to drive safely, especially around busy intersections and overpasses where accidents are more likely to occur.

Our thoughts are with those involved in the crash, and we wish them all a speedy recovery. Local law enforcement will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
