Sarasota, FL (March 7, 2025) – Florida Highway Patrol is actively searching for a hit-and-run driver responsible for a crash that left three young children seriously injured in Manatee County.
The accident occurred on February 22 in the 5700 block of Verna Bethany Road. According to authorities, an SUV traveling northbound veered into the southbound lane, forcing another vehicle off the road. In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, the driver swerved, but the vehicle crashed into a wooden power pole and overturned.
Three children, ages four, three, and one, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. The four-year-old remains hospitalized in critical condition. The driver and an additional passenger were not injured.
Witnesses reported that the SUV responsible for the crash briefly stopped before fleeing the scene. Authorities describe the suspect vehicle as a dark blue SUV with dark tinted windows.
