Manatee County, FL (January 21, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Monday morning claimed the life of a 78-year-old man on US-301 near the intersection with Colony Drive South. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the crash, which occurred as the man attempted to turn left onto Colony Drive South.
According to FHP, the man was driving a pickup truck southbound in the left-turn lane of US-301. Simultaneously, a Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 23-year-old man, was traveling northbound in the outside lane of the same roadway. The pickup truck turned left into the path of the Sonata, resulting in a devastating collision.
The impact forced the pickup truck onto the paved shoulder of US-301, while the Sonata came to rest on the grassy shoulder. Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the pickup truck dead at the scene. The driver of the Sonata suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
