Madison County, NE (January 28, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Highway 81 just north of Madison over the weekend has claimed the life of a Norfolk woman. The accident occurred when an eastbound car entered the highway and was struck by an oncoming van, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the car, 72-year-old Merridy Tomasek, became trapped in her vehicle following the crash. Emergency crews worked to extricate her using the jaws of life before she was transported to a Norfolk hospital. Sadly, Tomasek succumbed to her injuries shortly after. The driver of the van was also taken to a local hospital, where they were treated and later released.
