Madison County, VA (February 24, 2025) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash on James Madison Highway claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman and left two others injured on Saturday evening.
According to Virginia State Police, the accident happened at approximately 6:20 p.m. on James Madison Highway, just north of Forest Drive. Authorities reported that a Hyundai Elantra traveling north abruptly slowed down and was struck from behind by a Toyota Camry. The impact forced the Hyundai across the centerline, where it collided head-on with a southbound Subaru Crosstrek.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 27-year-old Erica L. Collier of Brightwood, suffered life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Officials confirmed that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Toyota driver, 20-year-old Matthew Goins of Gordonsville, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The 16-year-old driver of the Subaru, a Fairfax County resident, also sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment. Both were wearing seatbelts.
Police charged Goins with following too closely. The crash remains under investigation.
