Madison County, NC (February 18, 2025) – A tragic accident involving three vehicles resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries along U.S. 25/70 near Hot Springs on Monday morning.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:18 a.m. when a 2024 Ram truck crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Jeep Wrangler. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn and leave the roadway. The Ram truck then continued forward, striking a Toyota 4Runner head-on.
The driver of the Ram truck, identified as 51-year-old Phillip Gardner of Marshall, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was airlifted to Mission Hospital for treatment, while the passenger was transported to Johnson City for further medical care. The occupants of the Toyota 4Runner sustained injuries but were treated at the scene and released.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, including any potential factors that may have contributed to the tragic incident.
