Macon, GA (December 23, 2024) – A fatal traffic collision occurred on Interstate 16 West, east of Exit 6 near Ocmulgee East Boulevard. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the tragic incident, which claimed the life of a 37-year-old man.
The crash was reported to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center at approximately 1:49 a.m. Deputies arriving at the scene found a Ford F-150 pickup truck parked in the emergency lane with the driver unresponsive inside.
Authorities state that a 22-year-old driver from Senoia, Georgia, was traveling westbound in a Chevrolet Silverado utility truck when he lost control of his vehicle. The Silverado veered off the roadway and collided with the parked Ford F-150. The impact of the collision resulted in the death of the F-150 driver, identified as John Patrick Pace of Soperton, Georgia. Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley pronounced the victim dead at the scene, and his next of kin has been notified.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Pace’s body will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
