Lyle, MN (September 25, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on the evening of September 24, 2024, involving two vehicles at the intersection of Highway 218 and 140th Street in Lyle Township, Mower County. Emergency responders were alerted to the scene following reports of a head-on collision between a Ford Transit Van and a Kia Optima.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 2018 Kia Optima, driven by 17-year-old Whin Gay from Austin, was traveling southbound on Highway 218 when it collided head-on with a 2024 Ford Transit Van, driven by 25-year-old Jacie Mae Weaver from Rockwell, Iowa, who was heading northbound. The collision occurred at the intersection of 140th Street under dry road conditions.
Emergency responders, including the Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Lyle Fire and Ambulance, Austin Fire, Mayo Ambulance, and MNDOT, arrived promptly to assess the situation and provide assistance. Unfortunately, both drivers sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Whin was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, while Jacie was properly secured.
