Louisville, KY (January 26, 2025) – A man has tragically died following a three-vehicle crash in the Butchertown neighborhood late Friday afternoon. The crash occurred at the intersection of River Rd and Frankfort Ave around 4:40 PM and is currently under investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).
According to Aaron Ellis, a spokesperson for LMPD, the crash began when a westbound vehicle on River Rd lost control and rear-ended a commercial vehicle that was turning left onto Frankfort Ave. The force of the collision caused the car to veer into oncoming traffic, where it struck an eastbound vehicle.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a woman, was transported to University Hospital with injuries. The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured in the crash. The man driving the westbound vehicle, who sustained critical injuries, was also taken to University Hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
Authorities have not yet determined why the driver lost control of the vehicle, and LMPD’s Traffic Unit is continuing its investigation to uncover the circumstances of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the families and individuals affected by this tragic incident, and we extend our deepest sympathies to those grieving the loss of their loved one.
Car Accidents in Kentucky
Kentucky reports thousands of car accidents each year, many of which result in injuries or fatalities. Urban intersections like River Rd and Frankfort Ave are particularly prone to crashes due to high traffic volumes and the complexity of turning movements. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, rear-end collisions and lane departures are among the most common types of crashes statewide.
Preventable factors such as speeding, distracted driving, and poor road conditions often contribute to these incidents. Drivers are urged to remain vigilant, adhere to speed limits, and practice defensive driving, particularly in high-traffic areas.
If you or someone you know has been injured in a car accident, seeking medical attention and legal advice is essential. Understanding your rights and options can help you navigate the recovery process and secure any necessary compensation.
