Los Angeles, CA (February 10, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision involving several cars and motorcycles resulted in major injuries on northbound I-405 just south of La Tijera Blvd on Sunday morning. The crash caused significant delays and required extensive emergency response efforts.
The incident was first reported at approximately 8:01 AM PST when a 911 caller notified authorities of a collision involving multiple vehicles, including a dark blue Volkswagen SUV, a black sedan, and at least three motorcycles. Several of the vehicles were blocking the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane, creating hazardous conditions on a blind curve. Emergency responders, including the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and California Highway Patrol (CHP), arrived at the scene to provide assistance.
By 8:09 AM, CHP confirmed that the incident was upgraded to a major injury traffic collision (1180), with a couple of motorcyclists down and requiring immediate medical attention. Firefighters reported that all lanes were temporarily blocked to manage the scene, and a SigAlert was issued shortly after, closing all lanes on the northbound I-405 at Howard Hughes Parkway for approximately one hour.
The collision involved a total of five vehicles and resulted in two major injury cases and additional minor injuries. Tow trucks were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles, and by 9:22 AM, all lanes were reopened, and the SigAlert was canceled.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, examining factors such as speed, driver behavior, and potential mechanical failures. The identities of those injured have not yet been released as officials work to notify family members.
Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes on California Highways
Multi-vehicle collisions on California highways, particularly in congested areas like Los Angeles, are a significant concern due to the high volume of traffic and the potential for serious injuries. The crash on I-405 near La Tijera Blvd highlights the dangers drivers face on busy interstates, especially when motorcycles are involved, as riders are more vulnerable to severe injuries.
Common causes of highway collisions include distracted driving, speeding, unsafe lane changes, and failure to maintain a safe following distance. Additionally, factors such as poor visibility on blind curves, mechanical issues, and adverse weather conditions can contribute to accidents. The involvement of multiple vehicles and motorcycles in this incident underscores the complexity and heightened risks associated with such crashes.
California law mandates that drivers exercise caution, follow speed limits, and remain vigilant on highways to reduce the likelihood of accidents. Despite these regulations, crashes still occur, often resulting in significant physical, emotional, and financial consequences for those involved.
For individuals injured in multi-vehicle collisions, seeking immediate medical attention is critical, even if injuries are not immediately apparent. Prompt medical care ensures proper treatment and provides essential documentation for any legal claims that may arise. Victims may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages, particularly if the accident was caused by another driver’s negligence.
