Lonoke, AR (October 1, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early Sunday morning, September 29, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The collision was reported at approximately 12:28 a.m. on US 67 North at the 25-mile marker.
According to the initial reports, Agueda Carrillo Mata, a 53-year-old resident of Batesville, was struck by a semi-truck while she was inside a parked Dodge Ram. The Dodge Ram was positioned on the right shoulder of the road with occupants both inside and outside the vehicle. The semi-truck collided with the Dodge Ram, causing the fuel tank of the truck to burst and ignite both vehicles. The impact pushed the Dodge Ram down a ditch, leading to the ejection of several passengers.
Agueda Carrillo Mata was pronounced deceased at the scene.
In addition to the fatality, five individuals sustained injuries in the crash. The injured include Miguel Angel Salas Carrillo, 35, of Batesville; Jose Salas de la Cruz, 54, of Batesville; a minor, whose identity has not been disclosed; Jarumit Lugo, 35, of Batesville; and Jose Enrique Salas Carrillo, 37, of Batesville. All injured parties were transported to UAMS for medical treatment.
The Lonoke County Coroner’s Office is handling the deceased, and the Arkansas State Police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
