Logan County, OH (November 17, 2024) – Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on US-33 near milepost 3 in Stokes Township on Friday, November 15, at approximately 2:00 PM. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2009 Kenworth semi truck had come to a stop on the roadway due to a previous crash. A 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by a 70-year-old man, was traveling southeast on US-33 when the driver failed to stop in time and collided with the rear of the semi-truck.

First responders, including emergency medical crews, quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured driver of the Hyundai. The driver of the Hyundai sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment. Thankfully, the driver of the semi-truck did not report any injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has confirmed that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, and all occupants involved were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for a speedy recovery.

Semi Truck Accidents in Ohio

Accidents involving semi trucks, such as the one that occurred in Logan County, can have severe consequences due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles. In this case, the collision happened when the driver of the Hyundai failed to stop in time, striking the rear of a large semi-truck that had been stopped on the highway. These types of crashes highlight the importance of maintaining proper distance from large vehicles and always staying alert when driving on highways, especially when visibility or traffic conditions are impacted by prior incidents.

While semi-trucks play a vital role in transporting goods across Ohio and the nation, their presence on busy roadways can lead to accidents, especially when other drivers fail to recognize the potential hazards posed by these vehicles. Drivers are encouraged to exercise extra caution when approaching large trucks, particularly in areas where traffic may be stopped or slowed due to previous accidents or road conditions.

For individuals involved in accidents with semi trucks, seeking legal advice can be an essential step to ensure that all rights are protected and that compensation for injuries or damages is properly pursued. An experienced attorney familiar with Ohio traffic laws can guide you through the complexities of the legal system.
