Litchfield, ME (September 23, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Sunday morning, September, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old motorcyclist from Turner. The incident took place shortly before 9 a.m. in the area of 435 Richmond Road, as reported by the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
According to preliminary investigations, Jon W. Devoe was riding his motorcycle at a high speed when he crossed over the center line into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. The collision resulted in Devoe’s motorcycle becoming lodged underneath the truck. Bystanders rushed to assist and managed to pull him out from beneath the vehicle. Tragically, shortly after, both the motorcycle and the truck caught fire, becoming fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Ryan Gibson, 34, of Bowdoin, was able to escape the vehicle with the help of a passerby. Fortunately, he did not sustain any serious injuries.
The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the crash, with the Maine State Police assisting in reconstructing the scene. At this time, no charges are expected to be filed in connection with the incident.
Central Maine Power responded to the scene to confirm that the power lines in the area were unaffected, although some Spectrum lines were reported damaged due to the fire.
