Lima, OH (December 4, 2024) – Emergency responders, including state troopers and the American Township Fire and Police Departments, were called to the scene of a two-car head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Elida Rd near Grubb Rd. The crash occurred just before 4 PM, involving a black Ford F-150 driven by 34-year-old Joseph Fritts of Lima and a Buick driven by 23-year-old Alexis Miller of Van Wert.

According to authorities, Fritts was traveling westbound on Elida Rd when he crossed the center line, colliding head-on with Miller’s vehicle. Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Mercy Health St. Rita’s for treatment. A passenger in the Buick, 22-year-old Sierra Adams of Van Wert, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to the hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol suspects drug impairment may have been a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

Head-On Collisions in Ohio

Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of traffic accidents, often resulting in severe injuries due to the direct impact. The crash on Elida Rd underscores the risks associated with these incidents, particularly when impairment is suspected. Such collisions often occur when drivers cross the center line, as was the case in this crash.

Victims of head-on collisions frequently suffer a range of injuries, from minor to severe. In this case, the quick response from first responders likely minimized the severity of the injuries. The investigation into the role of potential drug impairment is critical in determining liability and ensuring justice for the victims.

Drivers are reminded to stay vigilant on the roads, adhere to traffic laws, and avoid driving under the influence of any substances. Preventative measures can significantly reduce the likelihood of devastating accidents like this one.
