Winter Weather Crashes in Pennsylvania
Severe weather conditions, including snow squalls, often contribute to dangerous multi-vehicle crashes on Pennsylvania highways. Sudden whiteout conditions can reduce visibility and make road surfaces slippery, increasing the risk of pileups and chain-reaction collisions.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), winter weather is a factor in thousands of accidents annually across the state. Drivers are urged to:
- Reduce speed and increase following distance in poor weather conditions
- Turn on headlights during low-visibility situations
- Avoid sudden braking or lane changes on icy or snow-covered roads
- Monitor weather alerts before traveling on highways like I-80, where snow squalls are common
If you or someone you know has been involved in a serious accident due to hazardous road conditions, seeking medical attention and legal guidance can be essential in the recovery process. For more information and assistance after an accident, contact Local Accident Reports.
