Lexington, KY (November 13, 2024) – Tragedy struck Lexington on Monday evening as two separate collisions claimed the lives of two individuals, according to the Lexington Police Department. The incidents occurred just hours apart and involved a pedestrian and a moped rider.
The first accident happened at approximately 5:55 p.m. on Winchester Road, near Ashton Drive. Emergency responders arrived promptly to find that a pedestrian, later identified as 43-year-old Angelina Wells of Lexington, had been struck by a vehicle. Despite their swift response, Wells succumbed to her injuries on the scene. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed her cause of death as blunt force trauma, and her passing was ruled accidental. Authorities confirmed that the driver involved remained at the scene and is not facing charges.
Later that evening, a second fatal accident occurred on Russell Cave Road involving a moped and a passenger vehicle. The moped rider, identified as 47-year-old James Stamper of Paris, was struck and fatally injured.
The coroner ruled his death as accidental as well. In a shocking development, 21-year-old Logan Rogers was later charged with leaving the scene of the accident and failing to render aid, leading to death or serious injury. Police located Rogers through their real-time intelligence center, and he is currently held without bond at the Fayette County Detention Center.
Both incidents remain under investigation as authorities work to determine the precise sequence of events. Lexington police urge anyone with information regarding these tragic collisions to come forward.

Pedestrian and Moped Accidents in Kentucky
Kentucky has seen an increase in pedestrian and moped-related accidents over the years, raising concerns about road safety. These types of incidents often stem from factors like reduced visibility, distracted driving, and failure to yield. Both Winchester Road and Russell Cave Road are known for their high traffic volumes, making them particularly hazardous for vulnerable road users.
Pedestrians, cyclists, and moped riders are disproportionately affected by roadway accidents. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, fatalities involving non-motorized road users rose by 15% last year. With the upcoming winter season, visibility challenges may further exacerbate risks, highlighting the need for proactive safety measures.
