Lexington County, SC (December 26, 2024) – A tragic DUI-related collision on Christmas Eve resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred around 8:15 p.m. on Fish Hatchery Rd near Sand Mountain Rd.
According to troopers, a 2014 Nissan SUV traveling south collided with a 2014 Kia SUV heading north. William Frederick Orris, 73, of Gaston, was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a seat belt. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher confirmed his identity.
The driver of the Kia SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have since charged the driver, a Lexington man, with felony DUI causing death.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
