Lexington County, SC (December 22, 2024) – A tragic collision claimed the life of one person on Friday afternoon at the intersection of South Carolina Highway 302 and Bub Shumpert Rd, approximately 3.6 miles south of Pelion.
The crash occurred just before 1 p.m. when a 2020 Dodge pickup truck traveling west on Highway 302 collided with a 2010 Toyota coupe that was crossing the highway from Bub Shumpert Rd. The Dodge struck the Toyota on the driver’s side, resulting in fatal injuries to the sole occupant of the Toyota, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office. No other injuries were reported in the crash.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident to determine the cause and any contributing factors.
