Lebanon, MO (November 25, 2024) – A motorcycle crash involving two riders occurred Sunday afternoon on Peoria Dr, approximately 2 miles north of Lebanon. The collision, reported at 3:50 PM, resulted in moderate injuries to one of the riders and minor damage to both motorcycles.

Authorities reported that the crash happened as both vehicles, a 2023 Yamaha MTN890 and a 2024 Honda CDR 300, transitioned onto a gravel roadway. The Honda, driven by an 18-year-old male from Lebanon, MO, struck the rear of the Yamaha, operated by a 17-year-old male, also from Lebanon. The impact caused both motorcycles to overturn.

The 17-year-old rider of the Yamaha sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Mercy EMS to Mercy Springfield for medical treatment. The 18-year-old rider of the Honda did not report injuries. Both motorcycles sustained minor damage and were removed from the scene by private parties.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with Trooper D.R. Willhite, assisted at the scene. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Gravel Roadway Hazards in Missouri

Gravel roads, common in rural areas like Laclede County, present unique challenges to motorcyclists. Reduced traction and uneven surfaces increase the likelihood of loss of control, particularly when transitioning from paved roads. This incident illustrates the heightened risks associated with traveling on such roadways.

Motorcyclists are reminded to exercise caution, reduce speeds, and maintain safe distances from other vehicles when navigating gravel roads. Ensuring proper control can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and potential injuries.

Local emergency services, including Mercy EMS, play a crucial role in responding to crashes in rural areas, where immediate medical care can be life-saving. Their quick action ensures injured individuals receive the attention they need without delay.
