Layton, UT (January 29, 2025) – A tragic accident claimed the life of a crossing guard near Vae View Elementary School early Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as 67-year-old Steve Winn, was struck by a vehicle while performing his duties on Main Street near 1600 North.
According to authorities, Winn was wearing a reflective vest and holding a stop sign when he was hit by a northbound vehicle. A witness immediately attempted life-saving measures before emergency responders arrived. Sadly, Winn succumbed to his injuries.
Although several children were present at the time, none were physically harmed in the crash. The female driver who struck Winn remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with law enforcement. Officials have not yet determined why the vehicle failed to stop, and the investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the Utah Highway Patrol and Clearfield Police Department.
