Laurens County, SC (January 9, 2025) – A tragic collision at the intersection of Highway 72 and Charlottes Rd claimed the life of one individual and injured another on Wednesday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 2:58 p.m. when a Toyota SUV and a box truck collided in the intersection. Officials reported that the box truck was traveling north on Old Mill Rd, while the Toyota was traveling west on Highway 72. The impact involved three occupants inside the Toyota.
One of the Toyota’s occupants, identified as 54-year-old Nicolas Perez Mendez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another occupant sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The condition of the box truck driver has not been disclosed.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, and no further details have been released.
