Las Vegas, NV (September 17, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on the evening of September 17, resulting in the death of a 47-year-old woman from Las Vegas. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the crash took place around 7:30 p.m. on Route 159, near mile marker 9, between Blue Diamond and West Charleston Boulevard.
The victim, identified as Ann Kathleen Simmons, was walking south on the east shoulder of Route 159 when she entered the travel lane and was struck by a northbound gray 2006 Toyota Scion. Despite the immediate response from emergency services, Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the location of the accident and cooperated with law enforcement officers as they conducted their investigation. The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
