Lansing, MI (November 10, 2024) – A Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper sustained injuries early Saturday morning in a crash involving a pickup truck at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Van Dorn Street in Jackson.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when a pickup truck, driven by a 66-year-old man from Spring Arbor, disregarded a stop sign on Van Dorn Street and collided with the passenger side of the MSP patrol car. Two troopers were inside the patrol car at the time.

One of the troopers was taken to Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson for treatment of injuries and has since been released. The second trooper and the pickup truck driver were uninjured.

Preliminary reports from MSP indicate that alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the injured trooper, and we hope for their continued recovery.

Alcohol-Related Accidents in Michigan

Collisions involving impaired driving are a significant concern in Michigan and across the U.S. Drivers under the influence of alcohol or other substances often fail to observe traffic laws, such as stop signs, leading to severe consequences. Intersections like Michigan Ave and Van Dorn St are particularly vulnerable due to traffic volume and visibility challenges.

Victims of alcohol-related accidents, including law enforcement officers, often face physical recovery, emotional distress, and legal complexities. Pursuing justice against impaired drivers is critical for accountability and prevention.
