Lakehead, CA (November 30, 2024) – A tragic crash on Gilman Road near Statton Road on Friday morning left one woman dead and another person injured. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Redding, the collision occurred just after 11:30 AM when a white Jeep Cherokee, traveling east on Gilman Road, lost control and crashed into Salt Creek.
The driver of the Jeep, 45-year-old Christopher Ainsworth of Lakehead, was able to escape the overturned vehicle and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Unfortunately, his passenger, a female, was unable to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP has not released the name of the deceased woman, pending notification of next of kin.
Emergency responders from local agencies, including CHP, remained at the scene until approximately 2:40 PM as they conducted their investigation. At this time, CHP has indicated that drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the incident.
