Lake Isabella, CA (February 21, 2025) – Authorities have identified 62-year-old Donna Lynn Sulu of Lake Isabella as the driver who lost her life in a crash on Highway 178 Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 12:15 p.m. on February 18, east of Lake Isabella Boulevard. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, Sulu was driving a 2019 Subaru eastbound when she was unable to safely navigate a curve. The vehicle veered off the roadway, striking multiple traffic signs before crossing into the opposite lanes.
As the Subaru moved into the westbound lane, it collided with a 2021 International. Emergency responders transported Sulu to Kern Valley Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the International reported back pain but did not require hospitalization.
The crash prompted a temporary closure of Highway 178 for approximately three hours while authorities conducted an on-site investigation. Officials stated that drugs and alcohol did not appear to play a role in the accident.
