Lake County, FL (November 3, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred late Saturday night in Lake County, resulting in the death of one rider and serious injuries to another. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place just before midnight on State Road 44, west of Hammond Lane.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a Ram pickup truck was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane when it collided with a motorcyclist riding a Harley Davidson who was heading eastbound. The impact was devastating, leading to the immediate death of the Harley’s rider, a 20-year-old man from Umatilla, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another motorcyclist, who was also in the vicinity, managed to avoid the collision but had to lay down his bike to prevent a direct impact. This individual sustained serious injuries and was subsequently transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital for medical treatment. Thankfully, the driver of the pickup truck did not require transportation to a medical facility.
