Lafayette, MO (November 22, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision occurred late Thursday morning on eastbound Hwy 20 near Hwy 13, leaving one individual with injuries. The crash was reported at approximately 11:20 AM and involved a Ford F550 and a Chevrolet Uplander.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident unfolded as a 2002 Ford F550, driven by a 57-year-old male from Higginsville, MO, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 20. At the same time, a westbound 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, driven by a 19-year-old male from Sedalia, MO, attempted a left turn onto Connection St. The Ford F550 collided with the Chevrolet Uplander during the turn, resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles.

Emergency responders from Lexington EMS arrived promptly, providing care to a 41-year-old male occupant of the Chevrolet Uplander, who sustained injuries. He was transported to Lafayette Regional Health Center for further treatment. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Meyer Motors due to extensive damage.

The drivers of both vehicles were reported to be wearing safety devices and did not sustain injuries in the collision. The investigation into the crash is ongoing as authorities work to determine any contributing factors.

Car Accidents on Missouri Highways

Missouri’s highways, including Hwy 20, frequently witness traffic accidents due to a variety of factors, including high speeds, complex intersections, and driver error. Left-turn collisions, like the one in this incident, are a common occurrence, often resulting from misjudged gaps in traffic or failure to yield.

Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution, particularly when navigating intersections on highways. Ensuring proper signaling and checking for oncoming traffic are critical to preventing such crashes. Missouri’s emergency response teams, like Lexington EMS, play a vital role in providing swift medical attention to minimize injury severity in these situations.

Communities in Lafayette County benefit from the coordinated efforts of local law enforcement and emergency services in managing incidents and restoring roadway safety. Understanding the risks and taking preventative measures can help reduce the frequency of similar accidents.
