Lafayette County, MO (February 4, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 westbound left two people injured Monday night after a semi-truck struck the median and re-entered traffic.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. near mile marker 40.4. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2022 Freightliner, driven by a 69-year-old man from Belleville, IL, veered off the left side of the roadway and collided with the median cable barrier. The truck then re-entered the highway, striking an eastbound 2009 Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 44-year-old man from Mayview, MO, sustained injuries. An 11-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Explorer, also suffered injuries. Both were transported by private conveyance to Centerpoint Hospital for treatment.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage, with the Ford Explorer deemed a total loss and towed from the scene by Walker Tire. The Freightliner, which sustained extensive damage, was removed by Jackson County Tow.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
