Laclede, MO (January 7, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 44 eastbound at mile marker 123 resulted in moderate injuries for three individuals late Tuesday morning. The crash, involving a 2015 Buick LaCrosse, a 2014 Chevrolet Spark, and a 2023 Peterbilt 567, occurred around 10:07 AM.
Preliminary reports indicate that the incident began when the driver of the Buick LaCrosse, a 53-year-old female from Marshfield, MO, attempted to change lanes to pass and struck the rear of the Chevrolet Spark, which had stopped due to a previous crash. The impact caused the Chevrolet Spark to collide with the rear of the Peterbilt truck.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene. The 20-year-old female driver of the Chevrolet Spark and her 25-year-old female passenger, both from St. Louis, MO, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Mercy Springfield for treatment. The driver of the Buick LaCrosse also suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Lebanon. The driver of the Peterbilt truck, a 50-year-old male from Knox, IN, was uninjured and able to drive his vehicle away from the scene.
The Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Spark were significantly damaged, with the Buick towed from the site by Dynamic Towing and the Chevrolet left in the median. The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Our thoughts are with those injured as they recover from this incident.
Winter Road Safety on Missouri Highways
Interstate 44 is a vital corridor in Missouri, but it is not immune to hazardous conditions and accidents, especially during winter months. Multi-vehicle collisions like the one at mile marker 123 highlight the importance of vigilance and safety on busy highways.
Drivers are reminded to maintain safe distances, reduce speeds in high-traffic or low-visibility areas, and exercise caution when passing or changing lanes. When approaching accident scenes, it is critical to remain alert for stopped or slow-moving vehicles to avoid secondary crashes.
Victims of such accidents often face challenges beyond their injuries, including vehicle repair, medical costs, and legal complications. Seeking immediate medical attention and consulting with professionals can help individuals navigate these difficulties and protect their rights.
