King City, MO (October 5, 2024) – A serious accident occurred on Friday evening, October 4 involving two pickup trucks on Missouri Route 48, just outside of King City. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 5:55 PM due to a two-vehicle collision.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered that David Horsman, 74, of Clarksdale, was attempting to turn his 2003 GMC pickup truck east onto MO 48. At the same time, Tiffany R. Cruz, 43, of Rea, was driving her 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 east along the highway. According to State Troopers, Horsman failed to yield to Cruz’s vehicle, resulting in a collision that left both trucks blocking the roadway.
Emergency personnel reported that Cruz’s passenger, Linda S. Applegarth, 71, of Rea, was airlifted to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City with life-threatening injuries. Horsman was also transported to Mosaic Life Hospital in St. Joseph, where he is being treated for similar serious injuries. Cruz sustained minor injuries and was evaluated by EMS at the scene but declined further medical treatment.
