Killeen, TX (January 24, 2025) – Two women are in critical condition following a severe single-vehicle crash near the 1300 block of E Central Texas Expressway late Wednesday night, according to Killeen Police.
Authorities reported that a Toyota sedan was traveling westbound on the entrance ramp to Interstate 14 at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car veered into the median between the ramp and the expressway, rolled several times, and ultimately came to rest upside down on the shoulder of the Central Texas Expressway.
Both women were ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. Emergency responders transported one of the women via helicopter and the other by ambulance to Baylor Scott & White in Temple, where both remain in critical condition.
The Killeen Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash, and no further details have been released at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured women, and we hope for their full recovery.
Rollover Accidents in Texas
Rollover accidents, like the one reported in Killeen, are among the most dangerous types of vehicle crashes due to the high potential for severe injuries or fatalities. High-speed travel, loss of control, and vehicle design are common factors that contribute to these incidents. In cases where occupants are not wearing seat belts, the risk of ejection and critical injuries increases significantly.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), rollovers account for a disproportionate number of fatalities compared to other types of crashes despite being relatively infrequent. In Texas, a state with extensive highway systems, high-speed travel, and complex roadways, can often lead to accidents with devastating outcomes.
For victims of rollover crashes, injuries are often life-altering, requiring extensive medical treatment and long-term care. The financial and emotional toll of these incidents can be overwhelming, and victims or their families may face challenges navigating medical expenses, lost wages, and other related costs. Consulting with legal professionals can help those affected understand their rights and explore options for seeking compensation.
To reduce the likelihood of rollover accidents, drivers are encouraged to maintain safe speeds, avoid distractions, and wear seat belts at all times. Proper vehicle maintenance, including tire care, is also essential for minimizing risks on the road.
