Kathio Twp, MN (October 11, 2024) – A traffic accident occurred on October 10 at approximately 4:22 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 169 and 460th Street, south of Garrison in Mille Lacs County. Emergency responders were alerted to the scene following a collision between two vehicles.
According to preliminary reports, a 2021 Toyota Sienna, driven by 76-year-old Bruce Lane McComas from Brainerd, was traveling northbound on Highway 169 and was attempting to turn westbound onto 460th Street. During this maneuver, the Toyota was struck by a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, which was traveling southbound.
Emergency responders from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, Mille Lacs Tribal Police Department, Garrison Fire, and Mille Lacs Health System Ambulance arrived promptly to manage the situation. The road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the accident, which may have played a role in the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Bruce Lane McComas did not sustain any injuries and did not require medical attention. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, and there was no alcohol involved.
The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, 84-year-old Helen Mae Paulno from Isle, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a healthcare facility in Onamia for further evaluation. Helen was also wearing her seat belt during the incident, and there was no alcohol involved in her vehicle. Additionally, a passenger in the Hyundai, 87-year-old Sidney Gilmer Nohre, also from Isle, did not report any injuries and did not require medical assistance.
