Kansas City, MO (November 21, 2024) – A tragic traffic accident on Wednesday night claimed the life of a man attempting to cross Interstate 49 near the Red Bridge Rd exit. The incident occurred at approximately 10:34 PM.
Kansas City police reported that a car was traveling southbound on I-49 when a fire truck with its emergency lights activated approached from behind. The driver of the car pulled over to the side of the road to yield to the emergency vehicle. In doing so, the car struck a man in a wheelchair who was crossing the interstate at the time.
Emergency medical services quickly responded to the scene, transporting the man to a nearby hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was unharmed, and police stated the individual did not see the man in the wheelchair prior to the collision.
This incident marks the 84th traffic-related death in Kansas City for 2024. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
