Kansas City, MO (February 16, 2025) – A serious crash on Interstate 435 Friday morning left one driver with critical injuries after a collision with a parked tow truck.

According to the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, the accident occurred around 8:45 a.m. when the driver of a Kia passenger car was traveling southbound on the entrance ramp from Raytown Rd onto I-435 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then crashed into a Dodge Ram 5500 tow truck that was parked on the east shoulder of the ramp.

The impact of the crash was so severe that it moved the tow truck approximately 10 feet forward. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided medical assistance to both drivers involved.

The driver of the Kia sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for critical care. The driver of the tow truck was also transported to a hospital, but their injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including potential contributing factors such as speed and driver awareness. Additional details may be released as the inquiry progresses. Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident.

High-Speed Crashes in Missouri

High-speed accidents remain a significant concern on Missouri highways, especially near entrance ramps and shoulder areas where stationary vehicles are at risk. Excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes, often leading to devastating injuries or fatalities.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, speeding contributes to a large percentage of roadway accidents across the state. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds when approaching ramps and to remain vigilant for parked or disabled vehicles on the roadside. Missouri’s Move Over Law also requires drivers to slow down and change lanes when approaching emergency or service vehicles stopped on the side of the road.

For those affected by serious car accidents, seeking immediate medical attention and understanding legal rights are essential steps in recovery.
