Kalispell, MT (January 13, 2025) – A Flathead County deputy sustained injuries after being involved in an on-duty accident on Friday night at the intersection of 1st Ave W and 2nd St W.
The incident occurred as the deputy and a reserve deputy were traveling northbound on 1st Ave W, proceeding through the intersection with a green light. A vehicle traveling westbound on 2nd St W reportedly ran a red light, colliding with the patrol car. The impact caused the patrol vehicle to spin and triggered the deployment of all airbags.
Emergency responders, including medics and fire crews, arrived promptly at the scene to evaluate the injured officers. Both deputies were medically assessed, and one deputy was transported to Logan Health Hospital for further treatment. Officials later confirmed that the deputy is now recovering at home with injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the westbound driver may have been distracted by a cellphone, leading to their failure to stop at the red light. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The Flathead County Deputy Sheriff’s Association emphasized the importance of avoiding distractions while driving and wearing seatbelts to prevent similar incidents.
“Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident,” officials shared, urging drivers to prioritize safety on the road.
