Jones County, MS (October 8, 2024) – A head-on collision on Saturday evening, October 5 resulted in injuries to three individuals, including a driver who became trapped in their vehicle. The incident occurred at approximately 5:19 PM near 3783 Sharon Road, prompting a swift response from local emergency services.
Upon arrival, firefighters from the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department found a four-door Chevrolet sedan blocking the roadway, while a four-door Toyota sedan was located down a small embankment off the side of the road. Witnesses reported that one of the vehicles drifted into oncoming traffic just prior to the crash, leading to the collision.
Firefighters immediately began rendering emergency aid to those injured in the accident. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained significant injuries and required hydraulic equipment for extrication. Fortunately, responders were able to free the trapped driver within four minutes of initiating the extrication process.
Two additional individuals involved in the collision sustained minor to moderate injuries and were treated at the scene. The Toyota sustained moderate damage, while the Chevrolet suffered major damage as a result of the crash.
Sharon Road was completely blocked for more than an hour to ensure the safety of both first responders and the injured individuals while the scene was cleared. Deputies from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Mississippi Highway Patrol were also present to assist with the situation.
