Johnson County, IA (January 18, 2025) – Two drivers sustained injuries following a collision involving a snow plow, a semi, and a pickup truck late Thursday night on I-380, just north of I-80 in Johnson County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the snow plow was laying down solid material as it merged onto northbound I-380 from I-80. At the same time, a semi-truck traveling north on I-380 collided with the snow plow, causing both vehicles to spin out. During the incident, they also struck a pickup truck.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assist. The drivers of the snow plow and the semi-truck were treated for non-serious injuries. Fortunately, the driver of the pickup truck escaped without injury. Authorities temporarily closed portions of I-380 to allow for cleanup and investigation, leading to minor traffic disruptions.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with the injured drivers, and we hope for their swift recovery.
Semi-Truck Accidents in Iowa
Accidents involving semi-trucks are a frequent concern on Iowa’s highways, including busy corridors like I-380. The risks are heightened during winter months, especially when snow plows are active, and conditions are more hazardous. Due to their size and weight, collisions with large vehicles such as semis can have severe consequences.
Safety measures, such as maintaining adequate distance, avoiding distractions, and adhering to reduced speeds in construction zones or during inclement weather, can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Drivers should exercise particular caution when approaching snow plows, as their operations can sometimes create unexpected conditions on the road.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a truck-related accident, seeking medical care and documenting the scene can be essential for recovery and any potential claims. Consulting with a legal professional experienced in truck accidents can also provide guidance during this difficult time.
