Jerome County, ID (February 18, 2025) – A 54-year-old man from Filer lost his life following a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 93 Tuesday morning, according to Idaho State Police.

The crash happened at approximately 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of US-93 and 100 South. Authorities reported that the man was driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy northbound on US-93 when he attempted to turn left onto 100 South. His vehicle failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with a southbound 2019 Ford F250 pickup.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, and the driver of the Subaru was transported to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries. Police confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The 25-year-old Bellevue man driving the Ford F250 was wearing a seatbelt and was not transported to the hospital.

The crash caused significant disruptions, with authorities blocking the intersection for approximately three hours while conducting their investigation. Idaho State Police continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.

Fatal Car Accidents in Idaho

Deadly car accidents, such as the one that occurred at the intersection of US-93 and 100 South, highlight the importance of traffic safety. Intersections are a common site of serious crashes, especially when vehicles fail to yield to oncoming traffic. The absence of seatbelt use can also significantly increase the risk of fatal injuries during a collision.

Idaho sees a concerning number of intersection-related crashes each year. Factors like misjudged turns, distracted driving, and failure to yield contribute to severe and sometimes fatal outcomes. While investigators continue to determine the exact circumstances of this crash, it serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of seatbelt use and cautious driving at busy intersections.

Losing a loved one in a sudden accident can be devastating for families, both emotionally and financially. Surviving relatives may have legal options to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, and other damages.
