Jefferson, MO (September 24, 2024) – A serious vehicle collision occurred on September 23 at approximately 12:00 PM on Southbound US-61, just north of Imperial Main Street. The incident involved two vehicles, resulting in significant damage and injuries.
According to preliminary reports, a 2016 Ford Focus, driven by 26-year-old Hunter M. Bailey from Black, MO, was traveling southbound when it collided with a 2007 Dodge Sprinter van. The van, driven by 77-year-old Paul R. Mertens from Sheboygan, WI, reportedly failed to yield, leading to the Ford Focus striking the left side of the van. The impact was severe enough to total both vehicles, which were subsequently towed by Fudge Towing.
Emergency responders, including the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District, arrived promptly at the scene. Hunter M. Bailey sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital – South for medical evaluation and treatment. Fortunately, both drivers were using safety devices at the time of the accident.
