Jefferson, MO (November 18, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision occurred on Sunday evening on northbound US-67, just south of Flucom Rd, leaving one individual injured. Emergency responders, including the Valle Ambulance District, were quick to arrive and assist at the scene.

The crash happened around 5:50 PM when a 2022 Ford Edge, driven by a 50-year-old female from De Soto, MO, entered the right lane of US-67 northbound from a driveway. A 2013 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 57-year-old male from Park Hills, MO, traveling in the same lane, struck the rear of the Ford. Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed by Shank’s Towing.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Valle Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for treatment. The driver of the Ford Edge was not reported to have sustained any injuries.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident while emphasizing the importance of caution when entering high-speed roadways from driveways or private roads.

Rear-End Collisions in Missouri

Rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of accidents on Missouri’s roadways. These incidents frequently occur when vehicles merge into traffic without sufficient space or fail to account for the speed of oncoming vehicles. The results can range from minor fender benders to serious crashes involving significant injuries or fatalities.

On high-speed roadways like US-67, drivers must exercise heightened caution when entering traffic, ensuring they have adequate time and space to merge safely. Proper use of turn signals and yielding to oncoming traffic are essential in preventing such accidents. Additionally, drivers already traveling in a lane should remain alert for vehicles entering from driveways or private roads.

Missouri’s Department of Transportation continues to advocate for roadway safety and increased awareness of driving best practices to reduce the frequency of rear-end collisions and other crashes. However, accidents remain a reality, and it’s critical for those involved to understand their rights and access necessary support.

Our thoughts are with the injured driver as they recover from this incident.
